The Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP) granted accreditation to St. George's University School of Medicine as of June 10, 2009. In 2007, St. George’s University was the first private medical school to be evaluated, site visited, and to receive provisional accreditation by meeting the academic standards and performance criteria mandated by CAAM-HP.
Accreditation had previously been granted only to the University of the West Indies, a public university with multiple campuses serving the nations of the Caribbean.
“Accreditation further secures St. George’s University’s place as the premier medical school in the Caribbean, although the University has been provisionally accredited by CAAM-HP since 2007,” said Charles R. Modica, Chancellor. “This adds to our long list of recognitions and approvals by external bodies, perhaps more than any medical program in the world.”
