Flu Prevention Tips

Plan Ahead
Make a “Cold/Flu Season” self-care package in case you get sick. Buy items at home and bring to Grenada in your checked luggage so you’ll have them if needed.

Include items such as:

  • Tylenol or other non-aspirin fever reducer
  • A thermometer
  • A decongestant (regular and non-drowsy formula)
  • Cough drops or throat soothing lozenges
  • Anti-bacterial hand gel
  • Lip balm
  • A small box of facial tissues and/or pocket packs of tissues
  • Several packages of instant chicken noodle soup mix or chicken broth

Avoid getting sick

  • Wash your hands with soap and water thoroughly and frequently
  • Try not to touch eyes, nose or mouth with your hands
  • Cover your mouth and nose whenever you cough or sneeze
  • Avoid kissing or hugging when you or others are ill
  • Don’t share eating utensils, drinks or toothbrushes
  • Drink adequate fluids each day
  • Try to sleep at least 6 hours each night (even before exams)
  • Seek help promptly if you do get sick (Clinic on SGU campus, 444-4671; RA in your dorm or 777# to reach the physician extender during nights and weekends)
