MBA in Multi-Sector Health Management (MBA-Health)

The Master of Business Administration at St. George’s University offers a US-style master’s degree which is project-centered and tool-driven, designed for experienced managers and professionals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and focuses on managing the dimensions and complexities of community wellness, including the economic enterprise. Combining a creative mix of blended learning methods, the program is taught primarily online to international project teams, with short residencies at our Caribbean campus supplementing the multi-mode delivery. Over a 12-month period, participants complete a 34 semester-credit program that equips them to manage every aspect of small to medium-sized organizations, in the private or social sectors, especially in international settings. A distinctive holistic approach underlies learning that reaches across disciplines and sectors, seeking the total health of communities, and is a unique feature of our Centre for Advancing International Management.

SGU’s MBA program is based on principles established by the "father of modern management", Peter F. Drucker. These include an emphasis on managing social impacts and social responsibilities, performance, contribution, productive work, achieving workers and the social sector, which emerge throughout the coursework taken by students. Incidentally, St. George’s University hosts the Drucker Society of the Caribbean.

Our multi-sector enterprise development approach translates traditional entrepreneurial thinking to real-world scenarios, engaging with Peter F. Drucker’s “scholarship of common sense”, providing project skills that implement and execute solutions for managers in organizations, especially those crossing sectors in international settings. MBA graduates gain quantitative, analytical and complexity skills, which enable them to address both the “hard” and “soft” aspects of managing organizations. Participants will understand the distinctives between for-profit, NGO and public agency structures and will work seamlessly across these differences. Every practical aspect of developing community enterprise, especially in areas of health, is featured in our student outcomes, from spreadsheet skills to creating business plans to managing accounting systems. Learning goals are built on standards set by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the UK-based Association of MBAs (AMBA), and incorporate the UN Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME).

The MBA-Health degree program is also offered as a Dual Degree with the Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees. Different start dates will apply.

Applicants will be expected to have a collaborative research relationship established with an international corporation or nongovernmental organization before applying. It is assumed that the research product completed will be publishable and of a quality to be considered an original and significant contribution to the field.
