Network and Email accounts

You must have one of the following accounts to access the various online applications.

1. Network Account:

Your Network account provides you access to the following network applications:

Printing Quota: All students receive a printing allowance or quota to use on the computer labs printers. The amount you are allotted depends on your school affiliation and is calculated per page. Refer to eTrust Self Service - Password Management System section.

Sonic Foundry: Using Sonic Foundry’s Mediasite technology, some course instructors now make recordings of their lectures available via Sakai for study and review. Using our Sakai course management system, students are able to stream a lecture to their desktops or laptops anytime and anywhere.

SHOR –Self Help Online Resource: You can submit computer service requests through our helpdesk system. http://shor.sgu.edu

2. E-mail Account:

Your e-mail account gives you access to the following applications:

Webmail: We encourage all students to use their SGU e-mail account. The University may use your e-mail address to distribute such instructions as notifications about student accounts, grade reminders, scholarship opportunities and enrolment status.

Sakai Course Management System: Over the course of the Fall 2010 term, St. George’s University will move to a new course management system called Sakai. Sakai was developed as an open source application by a consortium of major academic institutions including Stanford University, the University of Indiana and MIT. As a member of the Sakai community, SGU can take advantage of a vast pool of expertise concerning the use of Sakai and administrative best practices.

The Office of Information Technology will offer Sakai workshops for both faculty and students during the Fall 2010 term. In addition, the Educational Computing Team will provide assistance in course conversion and the use of Sakai and will address any legacy issues related to the migration. Our goal is to have converted our entire catalogue of courses to Sakai for the Spring 2011 term.

Bradford Campus Manager: SGU has implemented a Bradford security monitoring device to protect our wired or wireless network environment. Before accessing the wireless network, all students must authenticate and register their computers through Bradford. This process insures that computers on the campus network are running basic security software to prevent infection from computer malware. This ensures a more secure network for all.

Library Journal (EZproxy): SGU has a handful of Library subscription databases that require user authentication to log in. SGU uses EZproxy as the Library’s web proxy server. You’ll be asked to enter your e-mail account user name and password when you use EZproxy to connect to a fee-based website hosting e-journals.

3. Banner

This account will allow you to access Banner Self Service.

Self Service: The Banner Self-Service account is seperate from your network and email accounts.
