Settings for Wireless Network Cards

All computers will need to have DHCP enabled and use the following SSID to connect to the SGU wireless network:

SSID: Firefly (SSID is case sensitive.)

Each manufacturer uses a custom program to set up their cards. If necessary, please consult your documentation for specifics on how to use your card.

How to enable your computer to use DHCP

Windows 7

  • Click the "Start" button and select "Control Panel"
  • Click "Network and Internet"
  • Click "View network status and tasks"
  • On the left panel, click "Change adapter settings"
  • Right-click the appropriate network adapter and select "Properties"
  • Select the words “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and click "Properties"
  • Make sure that you click the buttons to select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically.”
  • Click “OK” twice to close the properties windows.

Windows 2000/XP

  • Click the "Start Button" in the bottom corner on the left.
  • Point to "Settings."
  • Click "Control Panel" from the menu.
  • Click "Network and Dial-up Connections" from the "Control Panel" window in 2000 or "Network and Internet Connections" then "Network Connections" in XP.
  • 'Right Click' on your network connection. Then click "Properties."
    (NOTE: The number at the end of "Local Area Connection" will vary depending on your computer.)
  • Double click the words "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" not the checkbox.
  • Make sure that you click the buttons to select "Obtain an IP address automatically" and Obtain DNS server address automatically."
  • Click "OK"
  • Click "OK"

Windows ME/98/95/NT4

  • Click the "Start Button" in the bottom corner on the left.
  • Point to "Settings."
  • Click "Control Panel" from the menu.
  • Double click "Network" from the "Control Panel" window.
  • Double click the words "TCP/IP" not the checkbox. (If using NT4 go to the "Protocols" tab first.)
  • Make sure that you click the button to select "Obtain an IP address automatically."
  • Click "OK"
  • Click "OK"
