St. George’s University is a small international university located in the English-speaking Caribbean island nation of Grenada. The new Nursing Program in the Department of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, is housed within the School of Medicine. The Nursing Program features technologically advanced classrooms, simulation and learning laboratories which offers a combination of traditional coupled with innovative curriculum that is designed to meet the needs of today’s Nursing students. Students have the opportunity to practice skills in a wide array of institutional and community settings, including the University’s campus health clinic plus several Grenadian community-based clinics and local hospitals. A final nursing internship may be conducted in a regional hospital, with a view toward developing sites in the USA. We have a progressive curriculum, outstanding faculty, and anticipate high NCLEX-RN pass rates.
Position Description
The University is seeking to recruit two members of faculty in the Department of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences. This is a full time appointment based in Grenada. The main responsibility of these roles is to provide high quality team-teaching and evaluation to Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) students in classroom and clinical settings. Candidates are expected to have a positive commitment to teaching and small group learning, with the ability to integrate basic sciences concepts with nursing in a case-based format. Suitable candidates will be personable, culturally competent and used to working in teams comprised of international colleagues and students.
In addition, responsibilities include scholarship within the discipline, service on committees, and participation in official activities of the Program, Department and University. The position is a full-time, 12-month appointment with nearly two months of paid vacation. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Requirements
Applicants should possess a Bachelor of Nursing Degree BSN), a Masters or Doctoral degree in Nursing or similar health education or management, plus a minimum of five years of demonstrated teaching experience in a basic nursing curriculum or other related health care discipline. A current State or Provincial Registered Nurse license is required.
The ideal candidate will have commitment to teaching, scholarship, and service that is consistent with the Department’s priorities and the mission of the University. This includes a commitment to recruiting, advising, retaining, and mentoring qualified students.
Applicants should have strong nursing science knowledge, expertise in case-based teaching, skill in using clinical simulation, and experience in evaluating students by means of course learning objectives.
Candidates must demonstrate technological literacy and a commitment to integrate technology in teaching and scholarship. Experience in online instruction and development would be an asset.
Preference will be given to applicants who are American Heart Association Instructors (BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP) or have experience in seeking accreditation of programs.
Positions may be filled at the level of Instructor, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
The level of appointment and salary will be dependent on the successful candidate’s training and experience. International candidates with good English fluency will be considered. Salary (in US$) will be commensurate with experience and in line with those of American Universities.
