• Curriculum

    All MPH students are required to complete forty-two (42) credits hours of our public health curriculum: 

    • Fifteen (15) of the total credits are completed in public health core courses;
    • Six (6) are program-required courses;
    • Twelve (12) in track- required courses;
    • Three (3) in elective courses; 
    • Three (3) credits for the field-based practicum; and
    • Three (3) credits for the culminating Capstone Seminar.

    For the dual DVM/MPH degree-seeking students, the Veterinary Public Health Track accepts up to 12 credits from the pre-clinical DVM course sequence. Those courses are supplemented with 32 credits of public health courses, which include two 1-credit Veterinary Public Health Track required courses.

    For dual MD/MPH degree-seeking students, 11 credits from the Medical curriculum will be included towards the MPH degree. These credits together with the 1-credit Community Medicine Seminar Series offered by the Department will form the basis of the MD/MPH degree track specialization. Students are required to complete 31 credits of graduate public health coursework including the practicum for a total of 42 credits and the award of an MPH degree.

    All students are required to complete the following five core courses and two program required courses (3 credits each):

    PUBH 805—Health Policy and Management
    PUBH 806—Social and Behavioral Aspects of Public Health
    PUBH 807—Principles of Environmental Health

    Program Required Courses (6 credits)
    PUBH 831—Concepts, Practice & Leadership of Public Health
    PUBH 832—Public Health Research Methods & Ethics

    In addition to the core curriculum, freestanding degree seeking students are required to pursue a degree specialization among the following tracks.
