Participated in a pesticide research project – researched the educational tools being used by the surrounding municipalities that expressed an interest in developing a pesticide free lawn care program/policy. Developed a matrix of educational tools surrounding municipalities were using to encourage a reduction in or prohibition of aesthetic pesticide use. Did a critical analysis of these various tools. Attended seminars relating to pesticide use and other program policy planning and development issues.

Examined the public health importance and risk factors associated with cystic echinococcosis in the Berbe people of Eastern Morocco. Used interviews and personal observation to investigate potential transmission sites e.g. water sources, abattoirs, human-dog contact and feeding patterns.

TANZANIA

Examined the contribution and role of knowledge, attitudes and practices towards the development and spread of chloroquine resistant malaria in Dar Es Salaam. Recruited patients for the study. Administered questionnaires and collected blood slides. Assessed blood films, recorded results and compiled an appropriate database.

Observed and analyzed zoonotic diseases among people, domestic animals and wildlife. Did ultra sound screening of Cystic Echinococcosis (CE) amongst the Karamajong people of North Eastern Uganda. Entered and analyzed data.

Participated in “Epidemiology of Human Injuries by Wildlife” in six villages within Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda. Formulated and created questionnaires to interview victims injured by wildlife within the national park. Conducted interviews and collated and analyzed the results

Participated in research project on breastfeeding rates and barriers to breastfeeding; interviews and shadowing with local health visitors and midwives. Prepared a report with practical and feasible recommendations on breastfeeding interventions that could be implemented locally.                       Participated in a program exploring effective ways of involving a targeted group in the development of services that meet their needs within City and Hackney through linking to the voluntary sector within City and Hackney PCT – Focused on the Bangladeshi population in an underserved area; identified the number of carer households in the community, their age and gender. Produced a report identifying ways accessing carers and recommendations for the Carers Centre in partnership with HAZ (Health Action Zone)

Evaluated the Hospital Book. Used semi-structured interviews with the client group, nursing staff and other staff within the hospital. Designed the questionnaire, conducted interviews, analyzed the interview findings and produced a report for the pct including recommendations for changes to the book. Identified the health needs of the Barnet Jewish population. Collected quantitative and qualitative data using census data and linking with health professionals, health visitors, district nurses and practice nurses who are working with the population. Linked up with synagogues, community leaders and schools in the area. Presented a written report on a specific aspect of the health needs of the Jewish population in Barnet.
