Dr. Blunt received a BA in Social Science, from the University of South Africa, Pretoria, South Africa, in 1975. While attending Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa, he received a NHED in 1976, a BEd, in 1977 (with distinction), a BA Honours in 1984, and a MEd in 1983. In 1997 Dr. Blunt received a DEd from the University of Port Elizabeth, Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Dr. Blunt has an enriched history of teaching and directorship since 1973. More recently, from 1994 through 2005, he held the positions of Deputy Director: Centre for Organisational and Academic Development (COAD) (1994-2004), Director of Academic Development (1998-2004), Associate Professor, Faculty of Education, (1998-2005) and Acting Executive Director, COAD, (2003-2004) at the University of Port Elizabeth, Port Elizabeth, South Africa. In 2005 Dr. Blunt held the position of Director: Academic Development at the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Media (CTLM), Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Dr. Blunt is currently the Deputy Director, Department of Educational Services, and the Director, Faculty Development for St. George’s University in Grenada.

Dr. Blunt has been conducting and supervising research in education, publishing results in peer reviewed journals, books, chapters, and presenting at international conferences since 1984.
Throughout his career Dr. Blunt has received several travel awards for presentation of research results at international conferences and in 1992 received the Juta Publisher's prize for Research in Higher Education, for the paper entitled Student Development in Higher Education, South African Journal of Higher Education, 6(3).

Dr. Blunt has been appointed external examiner for Research Masters (thesis) by the following universities: University of Cape Town, University of Natal, University of Potchefstroom, University of Stellenbosch, Port Elizabeth Technikon, and Rhodes University.
