Dr. Kumthekar received a MVSc in Veterinary Pathology (2002), with distinction, from Bombay Veterinary College, Mumbai (India) and a BVSc & AH, (1998), with 1st class, from MAU Parbhani (India). Academic awards received during this time include Young Scientist Award in the Pathology Conference held at Palampur (India), in September 2002, for the best paper entitled “Immunopathology of Squamous cell carcinoma,” and the Gold Medal for securing highest CGPA during BVSc.

Dr. Kumthekar worked as Research Associate, at Bombay Veterinary College (India) from 2001 to 2004 and during that time successfully separated and characterized protein fractions from squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) antigens from bovine eye cancer cases by SDS-PAGE electrophoresis and researched assessment of cell mediated & humoral immune responses in cattle affected by squamous cell carcinoma affected cattle.

Dr. Kumthekar began his teaching career at St. George’s University, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2004 as a Teaching Associate, in 2006 as an Instructor, in 2008 as an Assistant Professor, and since 2011 as an Associate Professor in Clinical Pathology.

Dr. Kumthekar is involved in various Research Projects at SGU. Currently he is working on Transmissible Venereal tumors in dogs and other infectious agents in domestic animals.
