Preveterinary Certificate Program: The University of Nottingham, one of Britain’s most sought-after universities, and St. George’s University have joined forces to actively assist students interested in pursuing veterinary medicine. Within the structure of the arrangement outlined below, successful completion of the requisite course work will allow students to gain direct entry into the first year of the four-year veterinary medicine program at St. George’s University (SGU).
The University of Nottingham has invested heavily in student facilities in recent years and the image of Nottingham as a pleasant and progressive city contributes to attracting students. The campus for the School of Biosciences is situated in attractive countryside a short drive from the open spaces of the Peak District National Park. The campus is fully self-contained with excellent library, accommodation, sports and recreational facilities, making it a friendly, sociable place where students are assured of a warm welcome.
The School of Biosciences (that administers the Certificate in Preveterinary Sciences) received the highest mark in the United Kingdom for its subject areas in the most recent independent review of teaching quality. In addition, the most recent independent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) placed the School TOP in the United Kingdom in the subject panel ‘Agriculture, Veterinary and Food Sciences’. Overall, the University of Nottingham saw the greatest UK increase in the RAE scores compared to the previous assessment of 2001.s
Admission: At the time of application to the University of Nottingham, students will simultaneously submit an application to St. George's University School of Veterinary Medicine. After a personal interview conducted by SGU, acceptance into the Nottingham certificate program will be dependent upon a collective determination by both institutions.
Subsequent entry to St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine would be conditional upon obtaining an overall mark in the certificate of at least 2(i) standard and a satisfactory reference from Nottingham.
Students meeting, or expected to meet, the typical entry requirements of an A level or equivalent offer can apply through UCAS for a one year undergraduate Pre-veterinary Science Certificate Course. This course follows the same modules offered in year one of the BSc Honours degree in Animal Science in the School of Biosciences at the University of Nottingham.
