St. George’s University Family Weekend

Who can attend Family Weekend?
St. George’s University invites students and their families to this event. Typically immediate family attends, but extended family such as grandparents, cousins, aunts and significant others are welcome too.
Is a passport required?
Yes, a valid passport is required of all visitors when entering the country.
When is the best time to arrive for the weekend?
Family Weekend activities begin on Friday, January 27th. If your schedule allows, we suggest that you arrive on campus Thursday afternoon and check-in at the Early-Bird registration and collect your tickets for your planned activities.

What is the dress code for Family Weekend?
Professional dress is required for the White Coat Ceremonies and receptions. Casual attire is appropriate for most other events. Make sure to pack sun protection, an umbrella and comfortable walking shoes too!
Are Family Weekend guests able to ride SGU buses? Is a special pass required?
Campus guests, including Family Weekend participants, require identification for riding the bus and gaining access to campus. Family Weekend guests will be provided with guest badges at registration, permitting them to ride the SGU buses for our weekend events.
Is transportation provided for events during the weekend?
Yes, a shuttle service is provided from campus to the various off-campus events. Check the event schedule or Information Desk for details.
Where can I find answers to my Family Weekend questions during the time of the Family Weekend events?
At the Information Desk on campus, which will be located at the Caribbean House.
What is the first thing that I should do before I attend any of the activities?
Visit the Information desk at the Caribbean House, to collect your welcome package and to finalize your registration process
If I cannot attend, how can I view the White Coat Ceremony
We record every White Coat Ceremony and will share a YouTube link on both our social media and with the students of the incoming Schools of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine classes.
What if we are bringing an infant (baby) do we have to register for them too?
No, you won’t be required to register a baby. Children under the age of 3 do not need to be registered.
Does my student automatically get to attend everything during Family Weekend?
Your student is welcome to attend all events and we hope they will attend as many Family Weekend events with you as possible. However, with the exception of the White Coat Ceremony, your student’s name needs to be included in your Family Weekend registration in order to allow them to attend any of the weekend’s events.
Do students need to purchase tickets for events?
Yes, students will need to purchase tickets if they wish to attend any paying event.
My student has class or other obligations during Family Weekend. What do I do?
Remember that students will have classes on Friday, January 27th! Check with your student before registering them, especially for events that have a charge associated with them. We would hate for you to pay for your student and they not be able to participate in a given event.
When will I get the confirmation of my registration?
Your Family Weekend confirmation is immediate, following completion of the online registration form and payment. Your Family Weekend passes to all events during Family Weekend will be given to you when you check-in at the Family Weekend Registration Desk (located in Caribbean House).
Are refunds available?
St. George’s University often makes arrangements with outside vendors for Family Weekend events. Many events require a financial commitment on the part of the University. While we will make every effort to provide refunds whenever possible, 48 hour advance notice is requested to cancel a reservation. Failure to cancel within 48 hours of the event may result in the total booking cost being non-refundable.
Is campus accessible?
St. George’s University makes every effort to accommodate individuals with disabilities. If you require disability accommodations to attend an event at, please contact us in advance of the event.
Is there an ATM on campus?
Yes, an ATM can be found in the lower level of Charter Hall. (Opposite the basketball court)
Where can we find SGU merchandise?
Head over to the SGU Bookstore (located at Founders Library) for a great selection of SGU items. There will also be a mobile station at the Sunset BBQ and we encourage you to visit them.
How can I share or see photos from Family Weekend?
Stay connected to SGU social media for updates and we encourage you to post photos of your time on campus. Use the hashtag #Beyondspice and upload via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
