Housing at SGU - Rules and Regulations

  • All entering undergraduate, premedical and preveterinary medical students are required to live on campus for one year, and all entering medical, veterinary medical and graduate students are required to live on campus for one term. You are eligible to seek off-campus housing if you are married with children, have pets, or have received special permission through the Housing Office.
  • Quiet hours on campus begin at 8:00 pm on Sunday through Thursday and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Quiet hours end at 6:00 am Monday through Sunday. Failure to comply with this rule can result in a loss of on-campus housing.
  • Students faced with roommate problems should seek help from a Resident Assistant first before bringing the matter to the Housing Office. If the Housing Office cannot resolve the problem, the matter will then be forwarded to the Dean of Students. Students are also encouraged to seek help from the Counseling Office.
  • Students should lock their windows and doors at all times (especially while the air conditioning unit is on) and keep their keys in a safe place. “Lock outs” will result in a penalty fee of EC$5.
  • All electrical appliances and stoves/hot plates should be turned off before leaving the dorms.
  • Students are allowed one visitor per night with a limit of seven total visits per term. Visitors must be signed in at the Housing Office in advance.
  • A few weeks before the end of each term, a memo is sent to every student outlining end-of-term procedures. Failure to return the room key at the end of the term will result in a charge of US$50..
  • Every resident is responsible for the proper care of University property within the dormitory and in the common areas. No resident may put nails, screws or holes of any kind in the walls. The walls may not be painted. Furniture must be properly cared for. Furniture must not be removed from the dormitories, and no additional furniture may be brought into the dormitory.
  • Each dorm room will be inspected at the beginning and end of each term. At the end of the term your room or apartment will be inspected, and if there is any damage your account will be charged accordingly.
  • All dormitories and buildings are smoke free.
  • No animals are allowed in the dormitories. If you choose to bring a pet, you must request permission to live off campus.
  • All residents should acknowledge that their personal belongings will not be insured by the University for any flood, theft, fire or natural disaster; therefore, it is advised that residents insure their personal belongings.*
  • In order to bring a dog or cat to Grenada, you need clearance from the Veterinary General. You must contact the Department of Veterinary and Livestock in Grenada and obtain a permit to import a dog or cat.* You must also obtain a certificate of health from your veterinarian a few days before arriving in Grenada to ensure that the pet has all his/her shots and is in good health. Other rules and regulations may be in effect both in Grenada and within the individual airlines. All these institutions or agencies should be contacted before travel arrangements are made.
