Mediasite Presentations on a mac

Post Mediasite 4.3 Upgrade

With the upgrade to Mediasite 4.3 Mac users will be prompted to install the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in.

What Is Silverlight?

Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of media experiences and rich interactive applications (RIAs) for the web.

System Requirements

  • Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later
  • 800MHz PowerPC G4 processor, 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo processor, or higher
  • Apple Safari, Firefox 1.5, or Firefox 2.0

Known issues that have risen after the installation of Mediasite 4.3:

Problem: Using Safari, once a user tries to access a Mediasite link they are prompted with an error message stating the following:

http://rathomill.stream.sgu.edu Mediasite Viewer cannot connect to the streaming server. The streaming server name might not be correct, the streaming server might not be available or the media stream format may not be supported: AG_E_NETWORK_ERROR

Solution: Reset the Safari browser by clicking on the Safari menu and selecting “Reset Safari”

Or

Clear the browser’s cache and cookies

Problem: When trying to view presentations from Firefox you only hear Audio and see the Slides but there is no Video.

Solution: This problem is likely to arise when trying to access a link through Angel and the link is set to open in the same window.

Hold down Ctrl (Control) and click on the link and select either open in new tab or open in new window

Or

Have the course directors set the link to open in a new window

Problem: Silverlight will not install because it does not met one of the said system requirements.

Solution: Unfortunately with the upgrade and the re-encoding of all the media files users will not be able to use windows media player to view the presentations anymore.

Therefore they will be required to update their systems.
