Clubs and Organizations

St. George’s University gives students the opportunity to get involved in campus life. To experience personal and cultural growth, get involved in one of the 25 SGU-sponsored student organizations.

Student Government Association (SGA) represents students and the Alumni Association in administrative matters and student affairs.

Student Government Association – Clinical provides the SGA with feedback on clinical experiences and concerns, and publishes the quarterly Clinical Rounds to address clinical students’ concerns.

Student Affiliate of the American Veterinary Medical Association (SAAVMA) coordinates chapter functions, promotes the exchange of ideas among veterinary medical students and represents members with relevant concerns.

Emergency Medicine Club works in the Grenadian community to improve health care and share clinical knowledge.

The Holistic Medicine Club provides a forum for students, staff and members of the Grenadian community to explore topics in holistic and alternative medicine.

International Student Organizations help students at the beginning of their studies and as they adjust to life in Grenada.

Iota Epsilon Alpha Medical Honor Society participates in international health projects that promote scholarship, research, public health and welfare for underprivileged communities and individuals.

The Preveterinary Medical Club studies experiences of veterinarians around the world, helps the animal kingdom of Grenada, and acts as a support group for fellow students.

Religious and Cultural Organizations support spiritual and cultural growth within the SGU community.

The Orphanage Students’ Organization provides care and assistance to the abused, neglected and abandoned children in the Bel Air and Queen Elizabeth orphanages in Grenada.

The Significant Others Group serves as a support system for spouses and significant others of students at St. George’s University.

The Premedical Club exposes premedical students, the School of Medicine and the Grenadian community to various medical specialties.

Surgery Club provides a forum to understand the field of surgery.

Volunteer Services allow students to donate time, money and energy to projects in the Grenadian community such as the Kennedy Home for the Handicapped.

Women in Medicine advocates for the interests of women in medicine, promotes women’s health and works for the inclusion of women’s health issues in medical school curricula and continuing medical education.

American Medical Student Association promotes improvement in medical education, world health care delivery and the enhancement of social, moral and ethical obligations of the medical profession.

Public Health Student Association promotes public health and preventive medicine through education and activities and coordinates recreational and leisure activities for members.

Physicians for Human Rights educates its members, future physicians and members of the community about human rights issues and coordinates events including videos, volunteering, student discussions and speakers.

Phi Zeta is the 80-year-old veterinary medical honor society that promotes scholarship and research pertaining to the welfare and diseases of animals.

Exotic and Wildlife Society provides instructive lectures and hands-on laboratory exercises focusing on avian, reptile, laboratory, zoo, marine and wildlife species.

American Animal Hospital Association provides informative lectures, hands-on wet labs and up-to-date demonstrations by qualified veterinarians with a concentration on practical small animal care.

Large Animal Society holds wet labs in areas such as goat anesthesiology, rumen palpation and nerve blocks, and hosts guest speakers who discuss various important and emerging topics such as BSE and West Nile virus.

Student Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society promotes the education and involvement of veterinary medical students in all aspects of emergency and critical care medicine through lectures, hands-on wet labs and internships.

Student Clinical Research Society
The Student Clinical Research Society is comprised of students who have excelled academically and offers them the opportunity to participate in a variety of clinically-related anatomical research. The main objective of the Society is to present their research findings in national meetings and publish their research findings in peer-reviewed journals.

The Orphanage Student’s Organization (OSO) is a group of volunteers committed to providing care and assistance to the abused, neglected and abandoned children in the Bel Air and Queen Elizabeth orphanages in Grenada. In addition to hosting beach days and parties, the OSO also helps to address the medical and other needs of the children.

The Veterinary Student Herpetological Society (VSHS) promotes the improvement of veterinary medical education in herpetological medicine through the exchange of ideas and educational materials among students and their associated faculty. As a student chapter of the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV) we promote the conservation of health and humane treatment of all reptilian and amphibian species through public education, captive breeding, and reptilian and amphibian habitat preservation. This club is open to all SGU students interested in reptiles and amphibians.
