Organized Sports

Organized Sports

Athletics on campus are an important part of student life.
The academic programs are rigorous; the ability to join sports activities is key to a student’s overall well-being. The Sports programs on campus are organized by the Athletic Facilities Committee ( AFC ) and are under the direction of Dr. Craig Goodmurphy, Director of Athletics. The athletic program grows bigger and more diverse each year. University teams are organized under the mascot, the SGU Knight, and have been competitive in Grenada and in the region.

Intramural Sports

The intramural sports program continues to grow and provide numerous athletic opportunities for the SGU community.  It includes basketball, volleyball, street hockey, dodgeball, and several field sports such as soccer, flag football and Frisbee.

University Teams
Although there are no official varsity teams, St. George’s has in the past sponsored teams in inter-island competitions for soccer, cricket, net ball, basketball, and track and field.  These teams are coordinated and organized by interested students, staff, and SOs.  The St. George’s team has become a well-respected rival to local teams and even won the American Airlines World Cup soccer championship in 2000.  We hope that the SGU Knights will continue to spread the tenets of professionalism and good competition as they represent SGU on the fields of Grenada and the Caribbean.
