Premedical Sciences Program

The Premedical Program is designed to provide students with the firm foundation needed to handle the rigorous course of study they will encounter in the School of Medicine.

This three-year program can be entered at each year depending upon academic qualifications. It offers undergraduate sciences and laboratories, as well as humanities and math courses that contribute to the overall goals of a pre-professional education. Much of the final year of the premedical program is taught by the medical school faculty.

This program has a proven track record in preparing students for the rigorous curriculum of the medical sciences phase. Last year, the students who came through the premedical sciences phase had, on average, higher grade point averages than their classmates in their first term of the medical sciences.

To be eligible for promotion into the medical sciences, a student must successfully complete the Third Premedical Year with a 3.2 GPA (B+)*, pass the Premedical Science Comprehensive Examination (PMSCE), and have a favorable review.

*Students who satisfy all other promotion requirements with a 3.0 – 3.2 GPA in the Third Premedical Year will be promoted to the Alternate Program in the medical sciences.
