PreVeterinary Medicine Program outline

The Preveterinary Sciences years are delivered on the True Blue Campus in Grenada, West Indies. This phase is designed to incorporate basic undergraduate courses in reading, writing and mathematics with the necessary science foundation courses for a well-rounded education.

The three years of Preveterinary Sciences is designed as a firm foundation for advanced Veterinary Sciences. The Committee on Admission places the applicants into the appropriate term based on the applicant’s academic background. For some students, this phase of the program involves just one year – the Third Preveterinary Sciences year. The Third Year introduces some disciplines that students will study in greater depth during their years of training in Veterinary Sciences; others, such as Biochemistry, are completed in the Preveterinary Sciences.

Mastery of English and study skills is also emphasized. Students will have some exposure to clinical veterinary practice in both clinics and in the field.

Students who complete Preveterinary Sciences years with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or better and pass the Preveterinary Medical Science Comprehensive Examination (PVMSCE) are promoted into the first year of the Veterinary Sciences phase of the program.

Students who do not hold a first degree and wish to obtain a bachelor degree in the course of their studies may be eligible to do so. Evaluation of prior educational background will determine eligibility and appropriate placement within the BS/DVM program.
