Dr. Hector Zerpa is a Professor of Physiology in the Department of Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacology. His teaching experience includes veterinary physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology, with an interest in the cardiovascular system. His main area of research is focused on the vascular function in health and disease, primarily in the digital vascular bed of ungulates. He has also explored the effects of tick-borne diseases on the cardiovascular system and the evaluation of cardiovascular variables in sport horses.

Before joining SGU, Dr. Zerpa taught veterinary physiology and pathophysiology in the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Central University of Venezuela for 18 years.

Dr. Zerpa earned his PhD degree from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London in 2009 and his MV and MSc from the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Central University of Venezuela in 1996 and 2000, respectively.
