Dr. Lauren Wise is a Professor in the University’s Department of Large Animal Medicine and Surgery. She is a board-certified large animal internal medicine specialist focused on equine medicine, and her research has centered on equine piroplasmosis, the infection dynamics and immunologic responses of infected horses and its prevalence in the Caribbean horse population.
Dr. Wise obtained her DVM from the University of Georgia in 2006. After completion of a large animal internship at Texas A&M University, she accepted an equine internal medicine residency at Washington State University and became a Diplomate of the ACVIM in 2010. She remained at Washington State to pursue her PhD with the United States Department of Agriculture on equine immunology and infectious disease focused on the parasite Theileria equi. Dr. Wise also holds an MS from Washington State University and a BS from Winthrop University.
