Lord Walton of Detchant, MBBS, MD, DSc, MA (Oxon), FRCP, has made significant contributions to the study of neurology and founded the Muscular Dystrophy Laboratories at Newcastle General Hospital.   His phenotypic classification of muscle disease laid the foundation for subsequent studies in molecular genetics.  His 1996 lecture was titled “The Dilemmas of Life and Death.”
