St. George’s University School of Medicine has been selected to host the 29th annual meeting of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists (AACA), to be held July 8-13, 2012, on the True Blue campus.
The meeting’s Presidential Speaker will be Dr. Linda Wilson-Pauwels, Immediate Past-President of the Association of Medical Illustrators. Dr. Wilson-Pauwels will speak on “Reflecting on Organizational Change: The Way We Were, the Way We Are, and the Way We Are Moving.”
Symposia planned for the week include:
- “Anatomy Throughout the Curriculum: What to Teach and When,” sponsored by the Educational Affairs Committee
- “Pearls of Teaching in Current Clinical Anatomy,” sponsored by the Career Development Committee
- “Outreach and Stewardship in Academic Whole Body Donation Programs,” sponsored by the Anatomical Services Committee
In addition, a scheduled Postgraduate course titled “Anatomy and Ultrasound,” will introduce clinical anatomists to “ultrasound principles and procedures, with hands-on experience using ultrasound devices on dissected specimens, and both standardized and real patients, that will cover examination of parts of the respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and musculoskeletal systems,” according to the AACA.
“The Meeting Planning Committee is excited about this year’s meeting, both because of the scientific program being planned and the unique natural beauty of this tropical site,” said Bob DePhilip, the committee chair.
St. George’s will offer student apartment accommodations, complete with housekeeping services and all essential amenities, for all guests. It will also provide halls for scientific sessions, exhibits and meals, and Dr. Marios Loukas, Chair and Associate Professor of Anatomical Sciences at the University, will host a series of fun outdoor social activities throughout the week, including snorkeling, hiking and a dolphin watch.
The Call for Abstracts and registration will commence in January 2012. For a complete list of events, click here.
