Written and signed medical excuses documenting serious illness, issued by University Health Services or by a licensed physician and countersigned by a University physician at University Health Services, may serve as valid evidence of students’ inability to take part in a class activity, including an examination. Medical excuses must be submitted to the Dean of Students prior to the examination or class activity. A medical leave of absence may be deemed necessary and issued by the Dean of Students.

In the event of illness during the course of an examination, it is students’ responsibility to notify the instructor immediately, report to University Health Services for evaluation/ treatment, and obtain written verification of an incapacitating illness from a licensed physician, which must be submitted to the Dean of Students in order to re-sit the examination.
