    Biography

Dr. Gabrielle Walcott-Bedeau is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology, Neuroscience, and Behavioral Science in the School of Medicine at St. George’s University (SGU), where she also serves as Assistant Provost for Community Outreach and Service Learning. Since joining SGU in 2012, she has distinguished herself as a dedicated educator, researcher, and academic leader committed to advancing medical education and fostering meaningful engagement between the university and the wider community.

Her research interests center on medical education and grassroots neuroscience, with recent scholarship extending into environmental health through GIS-based spatial analysis of green and blue space proximity to schools in Grenada. She has presented her work at regional and international conferences, including the SGU Education Summit and IAMSE forums. She is also engaged in developing innovative curricular resources, including Rx Bricks on trauma-informed communication and patient care.

In her role as Assistant Provost, her leadership extends to building partnerships with community stakeholders and global organizations to strengthen SGU’s mission of socially accountable medical education. Beyond academia, Dr. Walcott-Bedeau is deeply committed to STEM outreach for young learners. She directs the SGU Neuroscience Society’s Brain Awareness Week campaign and Brain Fair, which introduce preschool and primary students to neuroscience through interactive activities. She is also co-author of an IBRO/Dana Foundation grant proposal aimed at expanding these outreach efforts across Grenada.

Before joining SGU, Dr. Walcott-Bedeau worked extensively in health education, research, and clinical practice across Guyana, Trinidad, and Grenada, collaborating with organizations such as PAHO/WHO, USAID, and CARICOM. Recognized as both a physician and medical educator, her career reflects a sustained commitment to advancing student success, health equity, and community-based innovation in education and research.
