Bio
Dr. Marta Lanza-Perea joined the SGU faculty in February 2004. She is currently an Associate Professor and Director of the veterinary surgery lab (VSL). She is the course director for the junior surgery and anesthesia lab and co-course director for the Shelter Medicine Selective. Her interests include soft tissue surgery, shelter medicine, animal behavior and infectious diseases, in particular tick-borne diseases and TVT. She enjoys and has been involved in several clinical research projects during her years at SGU focused on these topics.
Dr. Lanza Perea serves as faculty advisor to multiple student groups, including SNP (Spay Neuter Pothounds), the Student Chapter of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians, the One Health One Medicine Veterinary Public Health Committee, and the Animal Welfare and Behavior Society.
Prior to her tenure at St. George’s University, Dr. Lanza-Perea spent nearly eight years working in the UK, some of them spent as a GP in private practice and some doing relief work in various small animal practices.
Dr. Lanza-Perea graduated from the University Complutense of Madrid, Spain in 1994. She earned an MSc in clinical and morphological pathology from St George’s University in 2014 and is a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons since 1997.
