Dr. Hernandez-Fonseca is a Professor of Physiology in the Department of Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacology. His teaching experience includes veterinary physiology, endocrinology, and reproductive biotechnology with an interest in the early embryo. His main area of research is focused on factors affecting in vitro embryo production and fertility. He has also explored the effects of different environmental and growth factors on embryo development in the bovine.

Before joining SGU, Dr. Hernandez-Fonseca taught veterinary physiology and endocrinology in the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences at The University of Zulia in Maracaibo, Venezuela for 28 years and Veterinary Physiology and Reproductive Biotechnology at two different Universities in Ecuador (University of Cuenca and Technical University of Loja)

Dr. Hernandez-Fonseca earned his Ph.D. degree from the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia (Athens, Ga) in 2002 and his MSc from the University of West Virginia (Morgantown, WV) in 1998. He earned his veterinary degree in 1991 from the School of Veterinary Sciences at The University of Zulia (Maracaibo, Venezuela).
