Chief Compliance Officer

Joining SGU in 2018 as Chief Compliance Officer for the University, John Kroen focuses on issues related to governance, risk, and compliance, evaluating existing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with US federal, state, and local laws and regulations.  In addition to US education-related regulations and requirements, including Gainful Employment and Consumer disclosures, Title IV financial aid regulations, the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA), Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), HIPAA Privacy and Security, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Mr. Kroen is responsible for compliance with all applicable Grenadian, UK, and other international laws in support of operations located in those countries.

Mr. Kroen joined SGU from XSport Fitness where he held the role of Chief Compliance Officer and Counsel, after spending 12 years with Adtalem Global Education and DeVry Medical International. With Adtalem, he held positions of Compliance Officer, Chief Security Officer, and Vice President, Civic Affairs—managing the organization’s community, municipal, government, and diplomatic relations throughout the Caribbean.

He is a Clinical Professor of Risk Management and Security Strategy at The Center for Strategy, Execution, and Valuation at DePaul University’s Driehaus College of Business, and was an Adjunct Professor at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine specializing in Veterinary Law.

Mr. Kroen graduated from Saint Xavier University where he earned a Bachelor of International Business. He also went on to receive a Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law.
