Professional Expertise, Interests and Research Areas

  • Since graduating from vet school in 2009, Sophie mostly worked in the zoo and wildlife medicine field. Her experiences were varied and included studying Adélie penguins in Antarctica, rehabilitating chimpanzees in Sierra Leone, and working in zoos and marine mammal facilities. She completed a doctorate in great ape cardiac diseases coupled with a ECZM residency in zoo health management in the UK. She is a diplomate of both the European and American College of Zoological Medicine since 2023.
  • Her research interests are wildlife and exotic animal diseases, clinical pathology, anesthesia and nutrition.
  • She is keen on providing veterinary students with increased exposure to zoo and exotic animal medicine.

Personal Background and Interests

  • Sophie enjoys traveling to watch wildlife and discover new cultures.
  • She is keen on all kind of water sports including scuba diving, swimming and wakeboarding.
