    Bio

Dr. Theofanis F. Kollias serves as Chair and Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Pharmacology at St. George’s University (SGU). He earned his MD and completed an MPH at SGU. Since 2016 he has held progressively senior academic roles, from Clinical Instructor to Lecturer and Assistant Professor, while, during the COVID-19 era, designing and directing online electives in radiology, occupational health and safety, pandemic preparedness, One Health, and health policy. He has been Hippocrates College Director since 2018, served as departmental Content Manager (2021–2023), Deputy Chair (2021–2022), and has led the department as Chair since 2023.
An award-winning educator, Dr. Kollias received SGA Excellence in Teaching awards (Fall 2023, Fall 2024) and the SGA Excellence in Student Support award (Spring 2024). His scholarship spans anatomical feasibility studies and multiple systematic reviews across surgery, women’s health, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, cardiology, and infectious diseases. He presents at national and international meetings and is an ad hoc reviewer for Translational Research in Anatomy and Clinical Anatomy. Beyond research, he develops USMLE Step 1 question banks (Elsevier; Pastest) and mentors faculty, staff, and students, including advising for USMLE Step 1 and clinical shelf exams.
Dr. Kollias contributes to university governance through the Academic Resources Subcommittee, Faculty Affairs Committee, and faculty search committees. His current work integrates evidence synthesis with curriculum innovation to strengthen clinical reasoning and public-health awareness in preclinical medical education.
