Bio
Dr. Yusuf Yakubu, DVM, MPVM, PhD, obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and Master of Preventive Veterinary Medicine (MPVM) from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Nigeria, and completed his PhD in Epidemiology at Universiti Putra Malaysia.
Dr. Yakubu’s research focuses on infectious disease epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, food safety, and the application of advanced statistical and molecular tools in public health. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, contributing over 40 articles spanning zoonotic diseases, food safety, and veterinary public health. His expertise also includes disease modeling, quantitative, and molecular epidemiology.
He has provided consultancy services to several international and regional bodies, including the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Nigeria, and the Windward Islands Research and Education Foundation (WINDREF). His contributions include the development of the ECOWAS Livestock Identification and Traceability Strategy, supervision of mass vaccination campaigns, and training of laboratory technicians across West Africa in diagnostic techniques for priority diseases such as Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR).
Through his teaching, mentorship, and applied research, Dr. Yakubu continues to advance One Health and epidemiology in Africa and the Caribbean, with a strong commitment to addressing emerging infectious diseases and strengthening health systems.
