St. George’s University proudly congratulates Rose-Ann Wickham, a January 2026 graduate of the School of Arts and Sciences, on receiving the Royal Society of Biology (RSB) Top Student Award. The UK-based learned society and professional membership organization presents the award to students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance, recognizing the highest overall percentage achieved within their academic field.
A native of Grenada, Wickham earned her Bachelor of Science in biology and was recognized as the top biology student for the 2025–2026 academic year.
“I’m genuinely grateful for the recognition,” said Wickham. “My academic performance was a reflection of my drive, curiosity, and desire to learn. I simply wanted to do my best, and receiving this award is a meaningful reminder of what can come from consistently putting that effort into my studies.”
A strong foundation for success
Wickham credits her experience at SGU with helping her develop the knowledge and confidence to excel academically. She said the combination of well-organized courses, dedicated lecturers, and supplementary learning opportunities gave her a strong foundation throughout her degree.
“SGU played a vital role in supporting my academic success,” she said. “What stood out most was the reassurance of knowing that help was available whenever I needed it. Having that support gave me confidence throughout my time at SGU.”
Exploring a future in science
Wickham’s interest in biology began with a fascination with science and a desire to help others. She initially chose the field with hopes of pursuing a career in medicine, but her aspirations have evolved as she has explored the broader possibilities within science.
“As I’ve learned more about the field, I’ve become more open to where my interests and experiences may lead me,” Wickham said. “Although I’m still determining whether medicine will ultimately be the path I pursue, I’m confident that I will find my place within the broad and diverse field of science.”
A lesson in discipline
For Wickham, the achievement also speaks to the importance of discipline and perseverance, particularly during the more challenging stages of her degree. She said the experience taught her a lesson that she will carry with her beyond graduation.
“At that point, discipline became especially important. That period reminded me that discipline can take you to places where motivation alone cannot,” she said. “Sometimes, achievements are simply the result of consistently showing up, remaining disciplined, and doing the best you can with the opportunities you have been given.”
SGU congratulates Wickham on this significant accomplishment and looks forward to following her continued journey in the scientific field.
