Have Questions?
Who is this program for?
The Summer Pre-Med Experience is designed for students who are serious about pursuing a career in medicine. Day 1 (July 18) is for high school students; Day 2 (July 19) is for university and college students. No prior medical knowledge is required, just curiosity and ambition.
When does the day begin?
Registration and breakfast open at 9:30 am on Day 1 (high school) and 8:00 am on Day 2 (university/college). Please plan to arrive at or before your session’s start time so you can check in, grab a bite, pick up your name badge, and get settled before the program kicks off.
When does the day end?
The formal program wraps up around 5:00 pm on Day 1 and approximately 3:15 pm on Day 2. An optional open session — “What’s Next for You?” — begins at 5:00 pm on Day 1, where you can explore SGU’s Doctor of Medicine pathway, meet admissions staff, and speak with SGU graduates.
Where is the event held?
The event takes place at the Sheraton Conference Centre, 4226 Duke of York Blvd, Mississauga, ON.
Is there parking available?
The Sheraton Conference Centre has on-site parking.
How do I get there?
The Sheraton Conference Centre is located at 4180 Duke of York Boulevard in Mississauga, easily accessible by car and public transit.
Is there a cost to attend?
No — the Summer Pre-Med Experience is completely free to attend.
Will food be provided?
Yes. Breakfast is served during arrival and registration, and lunch is provided midday. Light refreshments are available during breaks and the end-of-day open session. You won’t need to worry about bringing your own meals.
What should I bring or wear?
Come dressed comfortably. You’ll be participating in hands-on clinical activities throughout the day, including vital signs practice and physical exam stations. You’ll receive a personalized embroidered scrub top at the event — just submit your name at the embroidery station during check-in and pick it up at the end of the day.
What will I actually do during the day?
The day is built around a real patient case, and will follow her story from symptom to diagnosis. Along the way you’ll practice taking patient histories, measure vital signs, observe a guided physical exam, review diagnostic test results (X-rays, bloodwork, CT scans), hear from physicians across multiple specialties, and vote on a final diagnosis as a group. You’ll leave with a certificate of completion.
Can parents or family members come?
Parents and family members are welcome to join for the “What’s Next for You?” open session at the end of the day (beginning at 5:00 pm on Day 1). This session covers SGU’s Doctor of Medicine program, admissions, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities. Parents do not attend the hands-on clinical portions of the program.
Will I receive anything to take home?
Yes — you’ll receive a personalized scrub top (ordered at check-in, collected at the end of the day) and a certificate of completion. Throughout the day you’ll also build a folder of handouts and case materials to keep.
What happens at the "What's Next for You?" session?
After the main program, you’re invited to attend open breakout sessions where SGU staff, admissions counselors, and graduates discuss the path to an MD at SGU, including how to apply, financial aid and scholarship options, and what to expect from different program tracks. It’s a relaxed, conversational setting — a great chance to ask the questions that matter most to you.
Do I need to register in advance?
Yes. Registration is required and free. Use the appropriate link on the event page: the high school registration form for Day 1, or the university/college registration form for Day 2.
What if I have more questions?
