Future veterinarians, what's one word you'd use to describe how you felt receiving your white coat last weekend?
    💡ERAS without a STEP2 Score

Its nerve wracking, i wont lie. Noone will tell you different. Everything youve ever heard, i did too, and there were times i was so close to listening. But i had something telling me, “dont give up before i even try. What if? Why not me? What is there to lose? It takes one program. Make them say no”. Its still possible to get double digit interviews, match at your #1, match in a competitive specialty, and yes even as an IMG.

💭first and foremost, dont listen to the outside noise— speaks for itself. I could have a whole post just about this one statement.
💭submitting your app on time is a pretty universally accepted concept. Make them see your name. Make them screen your app.
💭when applying without a score, its tricky because you dont know what programs youre competitive for. apply more broadly. Prioritize programs your app is tailored to without considering a score. Use signals thoughtfully.
💭the more thats missing the more you look unprepared. Dont give programs extra reasons to toss your app.
💭know that it wont/cant be a “submit and wait” time period for you, you will have to reach out to programs— separate post on this is coming
💭a good score thats late is always going to better than a poor score on time. Reminder if you pass, you cant retake it, so your score is your score. Dont be academically reckless or put yourself in a situation you could potentially regret. Trust your intuition.
💭Sub-Is, mentors, work relationships you form etc can go a long way. Letters of rec, phone calls, interactions during rotations can all speak on things a 3 digit score cant. Again, make programs screen your app— they could love your app without a score.
💭it takes LITERALLY ONE program!!!!!!!!!!! Why count yourself out without even trying? What if? And what if it goes even better? If theres ANY chance, are you willing to just give that up?

🥼Tanisha’s mission? To be a voice for others and make a real impact in healthcare!

Now in term 5, Tanisha was inspired to pursue medicine after witnessing the care and compassion of her childhood doctors. One of her biggest goals is to be an advocate for as many people as possible, and she’s working toward that by learning Spanish and becoming more fluent in Haitian Creole. Learn more about her journey! ✨
