Biography
Dr. Curlan Gilchrist is the Director of Graduate Studies and an Associate Professor in the Department of Business and Management Studies at St. George’s University, Grenada. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Atlantic International University (Hawaii, USA), an MSc in Quantitative Development Economics from the University of Warwick (UK), and a B.Sc. in Economics and Mathematics (Honors) from Texas Southern University (Houston, Texas, USA).
Dr. Gilchrist brings over 26 years of experience in public policy and management. For 15 of those years, he provided leadership as Director of Statistics for Grenada’s national statistical system, and Head of Economic Policy and Taxation within the Ministry of Finance & Planning of the Government of Grenada. In addition to his public service roles, he spent four years in senior executive positions in the private sector.
Dr. Gilchrist served as Chairman or Director on numerous government statutory boards and corporations. He was formerly Vice President of the Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GCIC), and General Manager of the Grenada Bottling Company.
During the last two years (2023-2025), Dr. Gilchrist gave leadership to two Government of Grenada appointed advisory committees which were responsible for the development and enactment into law of the Public Sector Employees Pension Act 2024 and the revised Minimum Wages Order ( Statutory Rules and Orders No. 42 of 2023).

- Designed and conducted training for Civil Society Organizations in Grenada in the area of data collection, statistical analysis, and the use of data for advocacy; Funded by the United Nations Women, 2023.
- Conducted a Market Research and Value Chain Analysis for the Grenada Marketing and National Importing Board; Funded by the Government of Grenada, 2023.
- Conducted an OECS Regional Tourism Competitiveness project baseline study; Funded by the World Bank, 2023.
- Developed a Standardized Precipitation Index for Grenada; Funded by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization(UNFAO, 2022).
