Biography
Rohini Roopnarine is Professor in Veterinary Epidemiology and Veterinary Public health at St. George’s University in Grenada. Rohini earned her DVM from the University of Liverpool, UK in 1996. After completing her DVM, she was awarded a Clinical Scholarship by the University of Glasgow, Scotland, UK where she completed a Small Animal rotating internship in Medicine, Anesthesia and Surgery. Rohini received a postgraduate Medical Sciences scholarship from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad, in 2003 to conduct an M.Phil in Veterinary Public Health. Rohini subsequently completed a Doctorate in Education (EdD) (Higher Education) from the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. The focus of her thesis was on evaluating the factors influencing the development of Interprofessional Education that includes One Health for medical (MD), veterinary (DVM) and dual degree MD and DVM Master of Public Health (MPH) students.
She has a passion for One Health Education and a deep interest in Instructional Technology and the role of the Vet in Sustainability and Planetary Health Education. She was involved in the RCVS accreditation status obtained by the St. George’s University DVM program in 2015, due to the creation of a parallel Global Veterinary Public Health Track. In May 2022, she was awarded the status of Diplomate (Hon.) of the American Veterinary Epidemiology Society (AVES) at the AVMA in Philadelphia for significant research contributions to public health and animal health within the framework of a One Health focus. She is a past member of the National Academies of Practice (Vet Med)and became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health (FRSPH) in 2025.
