Biography
Dr. Sophie Moittie earned her veterinary degree in 2009 from the University of Murcia, Spain. Since then, she has developed a diverse career in zoo and wildlife medicine, research, and conservation—ranging from studying Adélie penguins in Antarctica to rehabilitating chimpanzees in Sierra Leone.
She completed a residency with the European College of Zoological Medicine (ECZM) in Zoo Health Management at Twycross Zoo, UK, while also earning a doctorate from the University of Nottingham focused on cardiac diseases in great apes. Dr. Moittie is board-certified of both the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM) and the European College of Zoological Medicine (ECZM-Zoo Health Management).
In Fall 2021, she joined St. George’s University (SGU) as an Assistant Professor, where she teaches exotic and zoo animal medicine and leads research initiatives in wildlife health and conservation.
