Become a leader in a veterinarian practice or as a research veterinarian by earning a dual degree that combines your Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) with a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

    DVM/MBA Overview
St. George’s University (SGU) helps veterinary students gain the business skills they need to make their practices thrive with a uniquely focused program. This is offered in the form of its DVM/MBA degree, an MBA in Multi-Sector Health Management (MBA-MHM) curriculum taught with the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) curriculum. This thirty-four (34) credit program can help improve students’ business skills while promoting an understanding of the complexities of operating a veterinary practice.

The DVM/MBA Program has a distinctive holistic approach, providing knowledge that reaches across both disciplines and sectors. Doctors of Veterinary Medicine must learn new skills in animal care throughout their careers while managing staff, assessing financial performance, marketing their practice, and addressing information technology needs. Accordingly, this dual-degree program was designed specifically for DVM students facing growing leadership and management responsibilities.

    Courses Offered

To earn an MBA graduate degree in tandem with the DVM degree, students will complete all courses online, in a virtual classroom which allows real-time interaction between students and professors. Some of the courses in this program include Critical Thinking, Ethics, Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship, Health Professionals Small Business, Health Care Marketing, Effective Human Resource Management, Strategy and Strategic Decision Making, Financial Accounting and Managerial Finance, among others.

Class Sessions: DVM/MBA students will take two courses at a time during an eight-week period. Live class sessions typically are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM EST, with some additional “face-time” required in different classes.
