Dr. Karen Lawson, the wife of the late Bartholomew (Bart) J. Lawson, Former Ambassador at Large for Grenada, proudly announced the creation of a youth center sanctuary in her husband’s name. The announcement was made at the 60th birthday celebration for Dr. the Right Honorable Keith Claudius Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, on Sunday, 19th November at the Astoria World Manor in New York. “This is a birthday gift to you Prime Minister Mitchell, as we believe our planned project reflects your vision of a forward moving nation,” expressed Dr. Lawson, the Director of this new WINDREF program.
Dr. Lawson explained that one of the programs primary goals is to improve the lives of the children of Grenada. The youth center sanctuary in the Former Ambassador’s name will incorporate recreational, educational and health care opportunities for all participants. The youth center sanctuary will be the product of a joint collaborative program between the Bartholomew J. Lawson Foundation, the Windward Islands Research and Education Foundation (WINDREF), and the various ministries within the Government of Grenada. This collaboration will evolve and hopes to inspire the young people of Grenada to lead healthier, happier and more productive lives.
WINDREF is an organization with close ties to the Lawson family. Bart Lawson was a member of the WINDREF Board of Directors, and Karen is an active member of the WINDREF Board.
