Spring 2026 SVM Awards and Phi Zeta Induction Ceremony: A Celebration of Excellence

    SVM Spring Awards 2026 News

The St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) recognized the outstanding achievement of its students, faculty, and staff at this year’s Spring 2026 SVM Awards Ceremony. The event highlighted the dedication and hard work of members of the SVM community, celebrating those who have distinguished themselves through academic success, professional growth, research, mentorship, and contributions to student life.

During the Spring 2026 celebration held on April 24 at Bourne Lecture Hall, over 60 awards were presented, highlighting those who exemplify the values that are at the heart of the School of Veterinary Medicine. This year also introduced the Dean Emeritus Neil C. Olson Award for Academic Excellence and Professionalism in honor of retired SVM dean Dr. Neil Olson. The School is now headed by interim dean Dr. Satesh Bidaisee.

“Excellence is not defined by a single award or achievement, but by the choices we make every day to learn, grow, and serve others,” said Dr. Bidaisee. “Today we celebrate the individuals whose dedication has elevated our School and strengthened our profession.”

The SVM awards ceremony also honored 36 new inductees into the Alpha Delta Chapter of the Phi Zeta Honor Society. The chapter welcomed 17 students from Term 5 and 19 from Term 6 during its induction ceremony, which was held at the University Club on April 10. Phi Zeta is the national veterinary honor society that celebrates students for outstanding academic achievement. The chapter is led by president Dr. Kerri Nigito, assistant dean of student affairs for SVM, and treasurer secretary Keshia John, head technician in the Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery.

Dr. Tara Paterson, associate dean of Year Four Clinical Training at SGU and chair of the SVM Awards Committee, underscored the value of honoring excellence.
