    SGU Provost Receives Distinguished Service Award: Recognized for 20 Years of Service

    SGU Provost Dr. Glen Jacobs receives the Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Jacobs will retire on June 30.

    St. George’s University Provost Glen Jacobs, DEd, was honored with this year’s Distinguished Service Award after 20 years with the University. Dr. Jacobs received the award at the School of Medicine’s Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2025 on June 7.

    The award is given to members of faculty and those in the community to recognize their outstanding service to the University. Dr. Jacobs will retire on June 30.

    SGU Chancellor and Founder Charles R. Modica and School of Medicine Dean Dr. Marios Loukas presented the medal to Dr. Jacobs.

    “It is with immense pleasure that we will now present the Distinguished Service Award to a good friend and an educator whose legacy spans four decades—our outgoing provost Dr. Glen Jacobs,” said Dean Loukas.

    “For 20 years, Dr. Jacobs has served the University with exceptional distinction,” he said. “His visionary leadership and unwavering commitment had a lasting impact on educational communities not just here but across the globe.”

    Celebrating the career of Dr. Glen Jacobs

    After joining SGU again in 2010, Dr. Jacobs has held several leadership roles including department chair, professor, senior associate dean, vice provost, and, most recently, University provost since 2018.

    He has played a key role in supporting the University’s academic growth and operational development, helping guide SGU through important periods of transformation and expansion. His leadership has contributed to numerous initiatives aimed at strengthening academic quality, program integration, and student success.

    Dr. Jacobs has dedicated his career to helping students succeed academically.

    • At SGU, he was instrumental in the design, development, and expansion of the Department of Educational Services, now a cornerstone of SGU’s student academic success efforts.
    • An international educator, Dr. Jacobs has presented at numerous conferences around the world on topics such as distance learning, student retention, educational initiatives, adult learning, and academic student success. Prior to his time at SGU, as executive director of the International Center for Supplemental Instruction (SI) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, he established National Centers and expanded SI throughout the US and internationally.
    • As a Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Jacobs worked on his doctoral research under the guidance of Dr. Deanna Martin, the founder of Supplemental Instruction in the US. Additionally, he has received numerous international awards and recognition in the area of leadership and student support.

    Known for his calm demeanor and commitment to open communication, Dr. Jacobs provided steady, compassionate leadership through significant challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and Hurricane Beryl. His leadership qualities stood out in his interactions with students, faculty, staff, government officials, and the wider Grenadian community.

    In an announcement to staff and faculty, Dr. Gaurov Dayal, CEO of Medforth Global Healthcare Education, the parent company to St. George’s University, said: “We are deeply grateful for Glen’s contributions and wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement.”

    Dr. Jacobs said: “I am incredibly thankful for the many opportunities that SGU has provided me throughout my career, and I am honored and humbled by this recognition. It has been a privilege to be part of such a remarkable community.”

    Dr. Mark Clunes, currently senior associate dean of Basic Sciences, will assume the role of interim provost while continuing in his existing position.

    SGU held its annual School of Medicine and School of Veterinary Medicine commencement ceremonies on June 7 and 8 at the Louis Armstrong Stadium within the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
