Hector Zerpa, MV, MS, PhD
Dr. Hector Zerpa is an Associate Professor within the Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology Department in the School of Veterinary Medicine. His area of expertise is in veterinary physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology with a particular interest in the cardiovascular system. His research focuses on the cellular mechanisms behind the modification of the vasculature physiology under stressor conditions (in vitro and ex vivo), predominantly on the equine and bovine digital vascular bed. He has also explored the potential effects of tick-borne diseases on the cardiovascular system and the evaluation of cardiovascular variables in sport horses.
Before joining SGU, Dr. Zerpa taught veterinary physiology and pathophysiology in the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Central University of Venezuela for almost 18 years.
Dr. Zerpa earned his PhD degree from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London in 2009 and his MV and MSc from the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Central University of Venezuela in 1996 and 2000 respectively.
