"We knew that by helping people’s pets, we were helping the people."
Last we spoke with Andrew Kushnir, DVM ’19, in March 2022, he was at the Ukrainian-Poland border providing medical assistance to refugees’ pets. What was supposed to be a three-week trip ended with Dr. Kushnir staying for most of last year to work with animal rescue groups and zoos to help vulnerable animals affected by the war. Read more about his experience, what he learned about himself as a veterinarian and caretaker, and his plans to continue supporting animals—and their owners—most in need. Link in bio.

During medical school I named each stage of my journey. The 1st stage of my journey was named FAITH. Faith is what led me 2,074 miles away from my home, family and friends to the beautiful island of Grenada to pursue my medical degree at St. George’s University School of Medicine. My journey was by no means easy. But I’m beyond proud of myself for accomplishing my life long dream. It’s an honor and a blessing to be the first medical doctor in my family. I hope to serve as an inspiration to young black girls and women and also to the Caribbean grads 🇬🇩. You can and you will do it! Matthew 17:20 says FAITH CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS. And move it did. Thank you God ❤️

Ti voglio bene mamma 🤍
From watching me get on the plane to Grenada four years ago, to cheering in the crowd as I got called Doctor for the very first time, thank you 🤍
Thank you for telling me what I needed to hear, for being there in both the good and the bad times, for answering a phone call whether I was near or far, for listening when I needed to speak my mind. You are my first friend, my best friend, my forever friend 🫶🏼

Dr. Nadia Shaikh, M.D.
Reaching the end of this road all I can say is Alhumdullilah! Looking onward to see that the journey is not over, the terrain is just changing; but I am proud, refreshed, excited (and nervous) to begin.

It was written a couple months ago, but today the ink officially dried—
Dr. Melissa Luu M.D. 🩺
Credit must given where it’s due though and my crew is undefeated. Blessed with the best support system (these pictures don’t even begin to showcase all of them) and I’m glad I’ve finally brought honor to my family 🐲
End of a chapter, but the beginning of another. Stay tuned 🤍
