Dr Heidi Janicke graduated in Veterinary Medicine from Hannover, Germany before undertaking an Internship in Equine Surgery at Cambridge University, UK. She remained at Cambridge to obtain a PhD in Equine Inflammatory Diseases, followed by a Residency in Large Animal Surgery at University College Dublin, Ireland, leading to a board certification from the European College of Veterinary Surgeons.

After a few years in general equine practice in the UK she returned to academia first at University College Writtle and then the School of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery at Nottingham University, UK, where she became first a Fellow and then Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Since, 2016 she has been at St George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine as Course Director in Large Animal Surgery and the Veterinary Research Investigator course series. She also participates in clinical skills labs including the Junior Surgery and Anesthesia Lab, Ambulatory Rotation and other large animal clinical skills and communication skills teaching.
