School of Veterinary Medicine Keynote Speaker – August 15, 2013


Dr. Lila T. Miller has more than 30 years of experience working in animal sheltering for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) in New York City, where she serves as vice president of veterinary outreach and as a veterinary advisor. Dr. Miller taught the first course in shelter medicine at a veterinary college in the United States, coedited the only three veterinary textbooks on shelter medicine, and has extensive teaching experience nationally and internationally.

Dr. Miller received the Animal Welfare Award from the American Veterinary Medical Association in 2008 and the Hills Animal Welfare and Humane Ethics Award from the American Animal Hospital Association in 2005. She cofounded the Association of Shelter Veterinarians in 2001 and is a past member of the board of the American Association of Veterinary State Boards, the New York State Board for Veterinary Medicine, and the National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.

Dr. Miller received her Bachelor of Science degree in animal science and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University. She resides in New York City with her cat, Miss Coco.
